In a few weeks I'll be heading back across to Canada for several meetings. During the week of June 15th I'll be in Toronto for internal meetings, then I'll fly across to Calgary (somewhere I haven't been since the early 2000s) on my way to Banff to participate in the SocialSys'26 workshop ahead of the ACM BuildSys conference in Banff.

For many old-time Autodeskers, the name Banff immediately brings back memories of AutoCAD, specifically the 2000i release, which had Banff as a codename.

This will be my first time visiting Banff - and speaking at BuildSys - so I'm very much looking forward to the trip. It'll also be a chance to catch up with Andrew Sonta from EPFL and Katherine Flanigan from CMU, the organisers of the workshop, as well as Gail Brager, who attended our Encoding Experience event in San Francisco last year. I haven't yet met our fellow keynote speaker, Vikas Mehta, but I'm looking forward to doing so. Many thanks to Katherine and Andrew for the invitation to participate in the event!

Right after the workshop I'm going to have to go straight back to Calgary for my flight to Toronto: I have an all-day internal meeting in the Toronto office the day after - which unfortunately means I won't get to attend BuildSys proper - before heading back to Europe. I won't get much time at home, but more about that in the next post.

  1. AutoCAD 2000i feels a bit out of sync with what is presumably a fantastic location in Banff 😉
