API wishlist surveys – reminder

Just a gentle reminder – for those of you who have not yet had the chance to complete them – that this year's API wishlist surveys are still open:

AutoCAD®
AutoCAD® Civil 3D®
Revit®
Autodesk Inventor®
Autodesk Navisworks®

To make sure we get as many responses as possible, we've extended the deadline for these surveys to June 17th, 2011.

In addition to these, we've also just published API wishlist surveys for two of our Media & Entertainment products:

Autodesk 3ds Studio Max®
Autodesk Maya®

These two surveys will be open until July 3rd, 2011.

We greatly appreciate you taking the time to complete these surveys – they are one of the most important sources of information our Engineering teams use to assess how best to prioritize their API exposure work for the coming releases of our products. Thank you!

Why is Revit always mentioned, but never AutoCAD MEP?

We don't publish wishlist surveys for all our products. Some we have clear API roadmaps for, others are not significant platforms from a 3rd party perspective.

AutoCAD MEP may end up being incorporated into the AutoCAD API wishlist survey, at some point (just as Revit's includes Revit MEP), but this has not yet happened.

  3. Kean,
The surveys mention the VLisp IDE.
Is there really anyone at Autodesk capable of improving that IDE? It was added a long time ago, and may have been the work of a team that is not around these days. Is that the case or is it that Autodesk prefers not to improve it? It has not been touched in a while.
    thanks

    James,

It indeed hasn't been touched in a while, as far as I know. Our Engineering team is capable of making changes to the feature, should they need to, but we prefer not to (to reduce the risk of introducing regression defects).

This item continues to be popular, so although it isn't a strategic focus for us to improve the IDE, it has remained on the list.

The fact that it remains popular despite a decade of abject neglect should tell you something, i.e. the strategic focus is wrong, and needs to be fixed.
