RockScroll: my new favourite Visual Studio Add-In

Thanks to Kristine Middlemiss, from our DevTech Media & Entertainment team, for bringing this very cool application to my attention.

There a few Visual Studio Add-Ins that I can no longer do without. I use CopySourceAsHtml for every blog post of mine that includes source code, and I'm now just beginning to form a similar dependency on RockScroll. This Add-In integrates with Visual Studio (in my case 2008, as I'm typically slow to install the latest & greatest VS release) to display a thumbnail view of your current source file in a fattened, still perfectly functional scrollbar:

RockScroll in actionThis tool is very useful, indeed, when navigating very large source files.

There is a similar addin for Visual Studio 2010 at visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/465a0d53-5133-4edd-a0cd-94484fe3d853

Disclaimer: I haven't tried it myself

  2. I have only 2010 at this point and it doesn't seem to show up in the extensions there 🙁

  3. Cool! When can we expect this to be added to the Visual LISP interface?

Yes, this is a joke, sadly.

  4. I really wish Microsoft Word / OpenOffice Writer has this feature too, as well as tabbed windows. Somehow I feel like these doc tools are deprived of competition. They'll need sort of like the "browser wars" to help them improve.
