The Autodesk Community gets a facelift

Autodesk CommunityIt seems there's more and more support traffic from developers going through the Autodesk Community, these days – I know the ADN team has been encouraging use of the developer-centric forums, which appears to be having some effect – and the site itself has just been on the receiving end of a much-welcomed redesign.

Autodesk Community logoThe redesign is intended to improve the "findability" of community content as well as providing a more personalised experience for users. Here's a screenshot of my own welcome page on the Autodesk Community, for instance:

Yes, it's been a while since my last forum post. Must do better on that front.

The site certainly seems a lot more useable post-redesign. I do recommend taking a look and posting any support questions you might have over there (unless they're specifically related to code I've posted here, in which case please do post a blog comment).

The main forums of interest on the Autodesk Community for readers of this blog are likely to be those that relate to AutoCAD Customization, more specifically .NET, ObjectARX, LISP & general and Visual Basic. The forums are also linked to from the AutoCAD Developer Center, for those who haven't been there in a while.

The other place to hang out for developers working with AutoCAD is, of course, The Swamp. You'll find a lot of useful advice over there, too, in an environment that's not managed by Autodesk (for those who prefer that).

  3. Kean,
Many DG users have been asking for a compact format to view headers, like NNTP would let us do years ago.
The current pc viewable format shows 5 blank lines for every line with a header. If you have any push on this, the DG team needs your support to get that fixed, as it seems Autodesk is not letting them do it. You know how important a forum is to a company and a line of products, and this point in time is arguably the most critical, with Bricscad having prety much full API compatability. Autodesk needs to shine, and its actually reverse optimizing its advantage with the bloated web format. Disturbing that a new format was launched without addressing the most requested change. thx

  4. James,

I'll pass this feedback on - thanks for providing it.

  5. where do you think he learns his tricks???
kidding, he learns them from the Bentely forums 🙂

  6. You know I could probably simplify my life a great deal by stealing ideas and posting them without credit... hmm.

Thanks for the interesting suggestion, James! 🙂
