Viewing 50+ design software formats from a web-page

This is very cool. As Stephen Preston has reported, over on the Cloud & Mobile DevBlog, the A360 team has delivered a widget that can be embedded in web-pages and views design files – including DWG files saved from AutoCAD, of course – that are dragged & dropped onto it. Basically allowing you to view them as you would in A360, but inside any web-page.

Instructions are available at 360.autodesk.com/viewer/widget, although – as Stephen notes – be sure to call adskViewerWidget.Init() with a capital "I".

There are two ways to render the widget. You can either render just the drop area…

… or the full widget:

I'm sure you'll agree this is very handy. Give it a try yourself!

I tried the 1st item with a 1/2 mb drawing, it would seem to upload, but the page that displays it hung at 30% forever. I tried my work internet and mobile hotspot to get around security, no luck either way...

Seems like there are still some kinks to work out... do try on the below page, though, as some of it may be due to Typepad hosting (Firefox support is another example).

  3. Unfortunately I get ugly messages like attached, is it our proxy or something on your side? This was with a DWG, I tried IFC also same results. I tried the link above eliminating typepad and get the same results.... Almost good!

Very strange. This is definitely still in Beta, by all accounts. Hopefully this will be addressed soon.

  4. Is it paid or free to use in our websites?

    1. As far as I'm aware it's free.
