This week a new video dropped on YouTube highlighting my team's work and how we're working with University College London to drive forward our research. Something implied in the video is that we're at the point where we're looking for research collaborations that would allow us to test out specific usage scenarios for our technology. After a great start to this year's Autodesk University in Las Vegas, day 2 kicked off well, too. I had a bit of a brainwave in the Expo: rather than taking the photo from the front, I took it from the back and the selfie camera automatically flipped it. Neat! On Sunday I started the journey across to Las Vegas for this year's Autodesk University. I took the train to Zurich and flew from there to San Francisco: it was actually pretty cool flying via SF for AU, as there were several Autodesk and Autodesk-adjacent folks taking the same flight. The summer lull is definitely now over, as we're just a few weeks from Autodesk University 2026 and our preparation is kicking into high gear. As mentioned last time our class is recorded, but things are progressing elsewhere, too: invitations have gone out for our Tuesday afternoon event (we're already half-full with the existing RSVPs) and the last spots for the Braindate just prior to it have now been filled. During my recent travels I managed to be away for a couple of anniversaries. My youngest child turned 17, and this blog turned 20. A definite "how did that happen?" on both fronts. Just 24 hours after getting back from my trip to Toronto and Banff, I was heading back to Zürich for a flight across to London. It was really hot, so I waited in the tunnel at my local station for a good 10 minutes before heading up to the platform. The trains in Switzerland are generally quite comfortable even in hot weather. Normally I have to change in Neuchatel to get to Zurich airport, but at this time of day I also had to change in Bienne and Zurich main station. Going past Swiss lakes on a hot day sometimes…

At the end of the last post, Andrew Sonta and I had managed to arrive (slightly delayed) in Calgary, missing our bus and having to wait 2 hours for the next one. After grabbing dinner at the airport, we were able to take the last bus of the night, leaving at 10:30pm. We eventually arrived safely in Banff, at the Centre for Arts and Creativity, where the ACM BuildSys conference was due to be hosted the following week. Last week ended up being a really good week, in many ways. My research team had our bi-annual feedback session with our leadership team, which I feel went very well, and the day after my daughter performed at Festi'Neuch. I was so busy worrying about the former that by the time the latter happened I was completely relaxed. Which ended up being 100% appropriate, as "The BANNED" completely nailed it.
