AU BEAT is a series of interview-style podcasts held with instructors, presenters and key AU stakeholders. The series provide a valuable glimpse into the programs and activities planned for this year's AU. On the subject of AU... over the next two weeks I'm going to be heads-down preparing handout material for my AU sessions. As a taster for my two sessions (DE319-2: There's More to .DWG Than AutoCAD® & DE401-2: Enriching Your DWF™), I'm going to post the hand-out material here, too. The two sessions will dive more deeply into the material created for the recorded presentation available from this…

On October 18th we're delivering a free AutoCAD development-oriented webcast entitled "AutoCAD: .NET for LISP Programmers". Check here for our overall API schedule, or go here to register directly. These sessions are typically held at the end of the working day in Europe (5pm CEST) which is the beginning of the day on the West Coast of the US (8am PDT). As usual, I'll post a link to the recording, once it's available.

As mentioned in this previous post, tomorrow we're delivering a fun (and free!) AutoCAD development-oriented webcast entitled "AutoCAD: 10 easy ways to crash your AutoCAD addin". In case it's not obvious, the point is to highlight issues to avoid in your code, rather than showing you how to introduce critical bugs. 🙂 Check here for our overall API schedule, or go here to register directly. These sessions are typically held at the end of the working day in Europe (5pm CEST) which is the beginning of the day on the West Coast of the US (8am PDT). I will, of…

Just a quick post today regarding an AU Unplugged! topic I've submitted. The proposed session is called "Developing applications for AutoCAD: best practices for using AutoCAD's APIs." Here's the description I gave for the topic: "Come along to share and learn best practices for customizing/developing with AutoCAD: discuss your choice of API technology and how best to address common development issues. Find out where best to focus your learning around AutoCAD customization." If you're interested in attending this (and other developer-oriented Autodesk University sessions), you can register for the conference at AU Online. I don't know whether the Unplugged event…

The recording of the latest in the AutoCAD Development Masterclass series, "Creating an Installer" held on August 16, has been posted here. The supporting MSI template used in the session is available from here. The next in the series, "10 easy ways to crash your AutoCAD addin", is scheduled for Thursday September 27. You can go here to register (like all in this series, this session is free for all to attend).

As mentioned some time ago, my team has been working with members of our Engineering teams to put together a comprehensive "Developer" track for AU 2007. We have 52 sessions devoted to developers or people customizing our products, in addition to a further 96 sessions in the "Customization and Programming" track. This adds up to host of great content for developers at this year's Autodesk University. Below are the details of the various sessions in the "Developer" track. I've marked the course IDs of sessions that have already sold out in red and the guest speakers from Engineering in italics.…

As promised in this earlier post, here's the recording of the "Custom Objects Masterclass" session held on July 12. The next in the series, "Creating an Installer", is scheduled for Thursday August 16. You can go here to register (like all in this series, this session is free for all to attend).

I'm really excited about two new events we're holding in September: an AEC DevCamp in Boston and a Manufacturing DevCamp in Portland. These are 3-day API-oriented workshops at locations close to our product development centres in Massachusetts (for AEC) and Oregon (for Manufacturing). Various members of my team and of our Engineering teams will be presenting introductory and in-depth sessions on the APIs for our industry-focused products. This is a great opportunity to improve your technical knowledge of the APIs to our AEC products (the focus being AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit Architecture/Structure/MEP and AutoCAD Architecture/MEP) or Manufacturing products (Inventor, AutoCAD…

Over the last few years my team has been delivering more and more webcasts about the APIs to our various products. I'd strongly recommend checking the schedule on http://www.autodesk.com/apitraining from time to time, to see what's there. These webcasts are free to everyone, not just ADN members (although the ADN site does reference the various recorded presentations). Right now we're in the process of delivering a series of webcasts covering advanced AutoCAD programming topics, with information relevant to those programming with either ObjectARX or .NET. The first was delivered a few weeks ago, and covered "Storing Custom Data in a…

My team is currently working on a proposal to deliver a significant number of additional API- & customization-related classes at this year's Autodesk University. We're planning to hold sessions covering many of our products' APIs, including (hopefully): Platform products & technologies AutoCAD Component Technologies (RealDWG, AutoCAD OEM, DWG TrueView, DWF Toolkit, Design Review, Freewheel) AEC Revit Architecture Revit Structure Revit MEP AutoCAD Architecture AutoCAD MEP AutoCAD Civil 3D Manufacturing Inventor AutoCAD Mechanical AutoCAD Electrical Productstream Geospatial AutoCAD Map 3D Topobase MapGuide Enterprise Media & Entertainment Maya 3ds Max MotionBuilder Here are the some of the sessions we're thinking about for…
